When you’re a mom, it’s tough to find the time to make money. You want something that will allow you to work from home and be able to spend more time with your family.

The good news is there are ways for moms like you! This post is going to show you how Etsy can be an easy way for moms of all types (stay at home, working or both) make passive income by selling printable items they create in their spare time on Canva or PicMonkey (or a few other of my favorite tools I share here).

This post will show moms how anyone can use their spare time and creativity for passive income with Etsy’s platform without having any technical skills at all – it doesn’t get easier than this when making money online as momma 🙂

Depending on how popular your niche is, every month you could make anywhere from $500 to over a thousand dollars.

The average is around the middle of that range, so you could make about an extra hundred or two each month just by listing your printables on Etsy!

Of course, there are magical unicorns that make $10,000-$100,000 per month on Etsy. But hey, even if you just make a few thousand, you can cover your mortgage and pay off your debt!

The best thing about Etsy is you don’t need to create an entire website from scratch – just upload your product photos on one page then add text descriptions for each item below it.

A printable is a digital file that is sold as a downloadable product on Etsy. Printables can be anything from an invitation to print and send, or digital scrapbooking templates for your photos, a planner, a worksheet, a helpful guide, a checklist and so much more – the possibilities are endless!

If you already have an audience, promoting your Etsy listing to them will be profitable quickly. But you don’t need an audience to get started. Etsy is a great place to start with your first product and build an audience from there. You can increase your rankings on Etsy with search engine optimization.

Search engine optimization on Etsy is not too hard, but it does take some time. You can use Etsy SEO tools to help you optimize your listings, and there are plenty of free and awesome paid resources on the internet that will teach how search engine optimization works in general so if this is something new for yourself then don’t worry!

The Steps to be successful as a seller on Etsy

There are a few things you need to do when you get started selling on Etsy.

Your Product Title Matters

Create a catchy product title that will stand out. You want to make it easy for people who are browsing Etsy so they can find your item and purchase from you quickly!

Make sure there is an accurate description of what each printable includes in terms with size (in inches) as well. This way buyers know exactly how big their file download should be before purchasing anything off Etsy. And it saves them time later on if something doesn’t work right away because then at least we have some idea about sizing when printing our files ourselves too 🙂

Find a popular printable in a growing niche

The first thing you want to do when selling on Etsy is to find a popular printable in your niche. (Here are trending blog niches that can work too!) This is going to be the item you’re most likely able sell and make money with on Etsy because it’s already proven that people are interested in it.

The best way I’ve found so far has been by searching through Pinterest boards of my target market (in our case, moms). Checkout the examples above.

Create your own version of the printable and add it to Etsy 

Once you have an idea for a printable, check out the competition. This will show you what’s the current standard. You will then need to brainstorm how you can make your printable even better!

Here are great tips when you want to stand apart from the competition.

• What is your idea and how will it help your customer better than others?  
• How can you make it better than the competition’s version of this printable type.
• What are some other ways to use or display these items that will help them stand out from others on Etsy?
• Can you create a bundle instead of just one printable?
• Can you go into a different niche but use ideas from others?
• Can you add more steps, better explanation, more helpful guides to a printable to add more value to it?

Do not copy anyone else’s work! You want to be original and authentic.

The more valuable your printable is and the higher impact it has on the customer, the more you can charge for it.

If you want to be successful on Etsy, make sure that your printables are high quality and original. You can also start a blog or website with helpful tips for your customers so they will come back again! If someone is interested but not ready yet then send them an email when you run a little sale.

In all honesty, you can make more money by selling your printables on your blog. It gives you the ability to create funnels, add customers to an email sequence and charge higher prices.

But it is a little more complicated than just opening an Etsy shop. So if you’re just starting out and you do not have blog, starting with Etsy is a good first stepping stone.

Price your product competitively, but not too cheaply 

On Etsy you don’t want to be the most expensive or least expensive printable in your niche. You want to be in the middle.

You can also offer discounts for bulk orders and a bundle package of multiple printables at once, which will make your product more attractive than just one or two items by themselves!

Include photos that show off the quality of your workmanship 

Since you’re selling a digital file, you need good mock up images to show off what it would like like printed out. Thsi small but very important step can make or break your sales.

The most important thing to remember is that you need a high resolution image. This will make your product look more professional and people are less likely not buy it because of the quality in their mind’s eye when they see an unclear, pixelated photo on Etsy or other platforms like Facebook ads!

Use Search Engine Optimization

Use keywords in both the title and description so people can find you more easily on Etsy.

When it comes to SEO, you’ll need to apply those skills to your Esty listing too.

The most important thing is to use keywords in your tags, title and description. This will help people find you more easily on Etsy. You can also include a keyword rich bio that links back to your blog or a freebie landing page, so you can collect leads from Etsy.
