12-Month Plan To Building a $10k Per Month Blog

There’s never been a more perfect time to start to build your online business. If you’ve been following along with our journey, then you know that I started with making zero dollars per month to now we’re earning 6 figures per month consistently. What a world and we just couldn’t be more blessed.

But even if your goal isn’t to earn 6-figures monthly, there are still ways that you can start to figure out how you want to grow and scale your blog. We want to give you a realistic expectation of how you can make it happen and give you actual guidance on what you can do to get to that 5-10K per month mark.

If you are hoping to supplement your earnings or maybe even replace your current job by making your online income your full-time income, we’re going to show you four easy phases on how you can easily make that transition begin to happen.

And if you’re needing a bit of encouragement since I’ve already been down this path, I’ll recap how my first year went once I realized the potential that was just waiting at my fingertips.

In my heart of hearts, I knew something had to change with our current situation. My husband, John, was working long days at his job, most days gone for 12-13 hours at a time. He was literally gone all day long and this was when we were really starting to grow our family, too. After we were two babies in, I just felt as though we were never really together.

Factor that in with all the stress…and I suddenly realized that I had my “why” for putting my focus on blogging. I wanted to be able to have a side income that could help take off some of the stress and hopefully eventually get home him one day.

Slowly but surely, I started my blog. I suddenly realized that there was huge income potential AND I was able to help others, too. At the end of the first year, I earned about $53,000! It took a lot of effort and courage, but it was so worth it!

I knew I might be on to something here.

It was then that I approached John and we started to lay the stonework for the path that we’re currently on.

Quite a story, right? I still pinch myself daily over it and how amazing it is that I was able to retire John. And now? We’re building our online business together and making enough money to sustain our family of 5.

When I first started dabbling in the online world, I never thought that the blog or any of my offerings would take off and do as well as they have. I really was just looking for an outlet to be able to connect with people where I could be productive, helpful, and professional.

But over time, I gained confidence and more knowledge and knew that I was creating things there were of actual value to people. And for me, that fuels me and makes me want to continue to do that more and more.

Understand That The Beginning Isn’t Your End

One of the biggest things to keep in mind is that if you’re just getting started, the idea of making $10K per month is going to seem miles and miles away. Don’t worry, we felt that way as well.

We had to create a plan that helped us to arrive there because we definitely didn’t start out making that much money monthly right out of the gate.

The good news is that if you’re starting right now, you’re already in a better place than we were when we first started years ago. This is because there is so much more credibility in buying things online now and people are actually quite used to online shopping and spending their money that way.

This is a positive for you if you’re just starting out, or are looking to grow your online platform as well. The groundwork has been laid by thousands of online entrepreneurs before you so capitalize on that.

People are way more eager to buy online so that really isn’t even a hurdle for businesses any longer. In fact, online shopping is becoming MORE popular than brick and mortar shopping and doesn’t appear to be losing steam anytime soon.

This is a very positive reason to start your blog.

And if you’re a business that has been around for a while but is debating about the online world, just know that your online offerings need to happen.

You have to act NOW and learn how to grow. Every day that you don’t, you’re losing potential sales and an amazing opportunity to scale your business.

12-month plan to building a $10k per month blog

Starting this plan now will help you lay the framework for success quickly and easily. How do I know this? Because it’s exactly what worked for us. Here are the four phases that all online platforms can easily implement.

1. Discover yourself and your audience

If you’re just starting out into the world of blogging, you need to take the first few weeks to figure out who you are. Understand the type of content you want to create, figure out how you’re hoping to help others, understand who your audience is going to be….those are all important questions.

You also need to think about if you like writing or if you’re going to focus more on videos or podcasts. Who do you want to serve and how are you going to make it happen?

The discovery phase is 100% different and unique for each and every person and requires a bit of time and effort to figure it out. You have to take your time and figure out the right discovery length for yourself because this part of the process does have a lot of tough choices.

Be confident when you’re just starting out so that you can be aggressive and decisive – taking action is much better than not taking action at all. You can always pivot over time if you need to at a later point.

Just remember that every step you’re taking, you’re learning. But once you realize that you’re taking steps forward, all your positive actions and movements are going to nulify the fear.

You have to move forward to make an income. Sitting still isn’t going to grow your business or help to pay the bills.

Just know that you are smarter and braver than you give yourself credit for.

2. Refine Your Goals And Your Offerings

This is where the magic of growing your blog or online business really starts to happen. You’re going to focus on creating freebies, growing your email list, and putting more content out there to start to engage more with your audience.

Because when you’re engaging and talking to them, you’re actually gathering important details on how you can help them, too.

The more that you engage, the more that you get to know your audience and their needs, the more it will help you create your products or message to better serve them.

Use your audience as an invaluable asset and hear what they’re saying when they’re communicating with you.

3. Create a small product

Ah, now we’re talking. This is where the money-making really finds its start. There are so many ways that you can be monetizing your blog in the way of having ads, affiliate marketing, or even sponsored posts but I’m a firm believer that the highest profit margins and the best returns come from offering and selling small digital products.

Small products are just that – small. These can be a $9 product that draws in your audience and shows them that you have knowledge that is worth their attention. (and to be honest, anything under $50 is going to be considered a small product)

This is where you have to figure out what your customers are needing and find a way to create a solution for them.

People will pay for solutions. So if you can solve a problem that lots of people have, you could be on to a very successful idea!

It’s also important to know that starting a blog and making it earn money will take quite a bit of time. When you start to create and sell small digital products, this is another way that you can easily start to earn money fast.

4. Scaling Your Offerings and Products

At this stage, you have your audience and have been working hard to build your list. Now is the time to focus on how to create your signature product.

One important thing to keep in mind is that your signature product can be a lot of different things.

This could be a course, coaching offerings, membership and again, digital products as well.

Because guess what happens when you start selling products? Once you sell a product to your audience and you PROVE to them that you have product offerings that offer value, they will continue to come back time and time again to buy more. And THAT is exactly what you’re hoping.

Once you prove that your $50 or $10 product is worth every penny, people aren’t going to hesitate to buy your $100 products because they KNOW that you’re providing value in helping them succeed.

If your small product can solve a small problem well and quickly you’ll build trust with your customers.

This is where the growth in your business really starts to happen. This is when you can look at your husband (or wife) and say, “Alright, we’ve got this. Let’s do this. We’re all in.”

The scaling phase is truly when things start to change.

Once you reach this point in growing your blog or business, you can then dive in even deeper and start to dissect all the information that you’ve gathered over the past several months. You’ll be able to use analytics and understand the breakdown costs per customer and find more ways that you can add value and offerings to continue with your pattern of growth.

And it’s at this point that you might be able to start scaling horizontally as well. This is where you create a product so amazing and awesome that you can have other bloggers and businesses sign up for your affiliate program where you earn money when they sell it to their audience. Pretty passive, right?!

See how much fun this can be? The important thing to remember is that you have to continue to take actionable steps all along the various phases.

There will be times that you might lose your footing, and that’s okay. It happens to the best of us. But I can promise you that stumbling along the way is NOT the same thing as failing.

No matter where you are in this journey, find your path and continue to take those steps. It will lead you to exactly where you’re meant to be. I believe this because I’ve lived this.
